Sven has announced his England squad for the upcoming World Cup. The biggest surprise is the inclusion of Theo Walcott, a player that Sven admits he has never seen play. While nobody will argue that he is not an amazing talent, given that Wright-Phillips is a very similar player with much more experience this is quite a snub.

There are no surprises at the back with the normal candidates all retaining their places. The midfield seems to lack something with jenas, hargreaves, lennon and Downing all included. The biggest concern could appear to be with the striker selection, given that Rooney is unlikely to be fit and Mickey has to be a doubt, we could be left with Crouch and Walcott to lead the line - something you would have been locked up for suggesting at the start of the season.

Obviously there are the reserves that can be called upon nearer the time should owen or rooney not be available and the formation could be altered so we do have options but its not a forward lineup to fill you with confidence.

For my own part im unsure what hargreaves and JJ bring to the squad. if we find ourselves 1-0 down to Brasil i cant see much on our bench that is going to scare them and given the injury worries we have taking three holding midfielders is a luxury we may regret.

Despite this less than glowing review it is important to remember that this england squad, with the 'golden generation' that the press love to write about, still has some phenomenal players. In John Terry,Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Stevie Gerrard, Joe Cole, David Beckham and Michael Owen there is a core of players that have the ability to beat the best in the world.

For the fans part we must pray that the injured heal and the fit remain so, and now that the squad has been announced support the players as if they were in black and white.

Believe....
